Eversharp Popular Doric
The art deco styled Eversharp Doric line was introduced in 1931. The first generation design (made from 1931 – 1935) had a gold cap band that did not extend all the way to the bottom of the cap. This meant that the cap edge was prone to cracking if the pen was posted. The second generation design improved upon this problem by extending the band all the way to the cap opening.
This pen is the “Carnelian” colour (See Richard Binder’s page for the colour list), which was introduced in 1935, which appears to be the only overlap year between this colour and the cap style. The nib is a “Gold Seal Flexible 14k” nib.
Unfortunately, the pressure bar was missing in this pen, and I don’t want to steal one from another one of my Dorics. So, I’ve used a new J-bar instead, with some careful bending of the spring end to keep the pressure bar flat against the inside of the barrel. Maybe, some day, I’ll find a Doric in bad enough shape to use as a donor.
One thing that’s obvious on this pen is that one of its previous owners was a biter… The teeth marks are easily visible on both the barrel and the cap ends.
