Monte Rosa 401PS

Monte Rosa was Montblanc’s ‘student’ line of pens, separated as a sub-brand in the mid-1950s and continuing until this last model 401PS which was in production from 1967 until 1970. Hooded nibs were still in style in the late 60s, and this pen is no exception. It was also a way to save on the production costs, since the nib can be smaller if it’s hidden under plastic.

The pitting on the steel cap is obvious in the photos. The bend in the clip is not immediately noticeable, but that’s because I chose the angles in the photos carefully to disguise it.

The P stands for Patrone, or ‘cartridge’ in German, and the S indicates that it has a slip-on cap instead of a threaded screw-on type.
