Penol No. 2 Aëro
The Penol No. 2 Aëro was made between 1937 and 1940 at the Christian Olsen factory in Copenhagen. The “Aëro” designation refers to the fact that it is a button filler with an ink sac, but includes an ink window at the top of the barrel. In fact, this one also has a transparent portion of the friction-fit section – so you’re actually looking through both the barrel and the section.
At that time, pens made at the Penol factory were assembled from whatever parts they had on-hand, and turnen by-hand on lathes. This is why two Penol’s – even of the the same model may not necessarily have interchangeable parts. It also explains the mismatched gold cap bands and nickel-plated clip on this pen.
The cap bands show signs of brassing, shown below.
The nib was slightly bent at some time, so I have straightened it and smoothed the tip – however, as can be seen in the photographs, it is not in mint condition. It has a medium flex. With a Lamy ink, flex writing such as a copperplate style is not a problem. This can also be used as a day-to-day pen.
