The Petley in Wenge

This pen was made as a gift to a friend. It’s also my first attempt at making a pen with the following features:

  • a closed-end barrel
  • a postable cap
  • a clip

It was also a bit of an experiment, since I wasn’t sure whether the grain in wenge is too open to withstand the thin walls of the pen (at a minimum, the wood thickness is probably less than 1 mm). It will also be interesting to see if the wenge splits over time, as the wood and the inner brass barrel expand and contract by differing amounts. (This has proven to be an issue with African Blackwood…)
